Teachers want to increase the tax threshold to PLN 160,000. They do not fit into the current

- "Solidarity" of education and science employees demanded that Prime Minister Donald Tusk fulfill his promises to reduce taxes.
- The idea is to increase the tax-free amount to PLN 60,000 and raise the first threshold to PLN 160,000.
- Thanks to this, teachers will no longer exceed the first tax bracket. But will the government agree to this?
- Dear Mr. Prime Minister, on behalf of the National Secretariat of Science and Education of NSZZ "Solidarność", we appeal to urgently take action to fulfill the publicly made election promise to increase the personal income tax-free amount to PLN 60,000 per year and to increase the limit of the first tax threshold from PLN 120,000 to PLN 160,000 - this is the appeal the National Secretariat of Science and Education of NSZZ "Solidarność" made to Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The current tax system deepens social inequalitiesAt the same time, he demanded an immediate presentation of a schedule for introducing the above changes.
The reason? The current tax-free amount and the amount constituting the first tax threshold do not correspond to "either the current costs of living or the assumptions of the pro-family and pro-teacher policy declared by the current government."
Maintaining an unfair tax system deepens social and economic inequalities, which particularly affect employees of the public sector - including those responsible for the future of the young generation and the development of science in Poland
- argues the educational "Solidarity".
KSNiO NSZZ "Solidarność" emphasized that the fulfillment of this promise would not only relieve the household budgets of millions of Poles, but would also be an expression of concern for social justice and responsibility for the word given to citizens.
Teachers working 1.5 full-time jobs are hindered by the PLN 120,000 thresholdIt seems that the PLN 160,000 threshold should solve the problems of teachers and academics who, following the sudden pay increases in January 2024, began to fall into the second tax bracket. This is hardly surprising, since they worked 1.5 or more full-time positions throughout the calendar year. This phenomenon, although contrary to the described and common problem of low earnings of teachers working in so-called bare full-time positions, resulted in a rather daring demand from the teaching community at the beginning of 2025 to establish additional tax exemptions for this professional group. The demand was not taken up.
Now it is also hard to imagine that yesterday's appeal would result in changes in both areas. However, we can expect that the first one will be fulfilled. Because although it is difficult to assess who will win the elections today, it is already known that after the announcement by Rafał Trzaskowski, who is running for President of the Republic of Poland, that he will introduce an increase in the amount to PLN 60,000 this year , the government is already counting on how to speed up the implementation of its promise, made during the parliamentary elections of October 15, 2023. And if it counts everything, even if Karol Nawrocki wins, it will increase this amount, because the next parliamentary elections are coming soon and they will have to be won somehow.
