Trains will travel faster along the Nadodrzanka line. Rails will be replaced and turnouts repaired along a 300-kilometer section of the route, in the Lower Silesian, Lubusz, and West Pomeranian Voivodeships. As a result, freight trains will travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h. Passenger trains will also be sped up: the fastest trains will travel 40 minutes faster between Wrocław and Szczecin, and 10 minutes faster between Szczecin and Świnoujście. PKP Polish Railway Lines has signed three contracts for the implementation of works under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), with a total value of over PLN 500 million net. The investments are expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Trains will increase speeds on the Nadodrzanka line, a major railway line that runs from Lower Silesia through the Lubusz Voivodeship to Western Pomerania. Once the work is completed, speed restrictions currently in place due to the technical condition of the tracks will be lifted. The investment will improve freight train speeds, allowing them to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h (currently, depending on the section, speeds on the line can reach up to 60 km/h). Passenger trains will travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h on the Lower Silesian section and 140 km/h on the Lubusz and West Pomeranian sections. This will translate into a reduction in travel time for the fastest trains: between Wrocław and Zielona Góra by 18 minutes, between Zielona Góra and Szczecin by over 20 minutes, on the entire Wrocław-Szczecin section by 40 minutes, and between Szczecin and Świnoujście by 10 minutes. The improved parameters will not only have a positive impact on more efficient journeys, but will also increase the capacity of the route, which will be able to accommodate more trains, including freight trains, going to and from the seaports in Szczecin and Świnoujście.
Synergy of railways and ports"The synergy of two important sectors, railways and ports, will significantly increase the competitiveness of the Polish economy," said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka. "Thanks to the modernization of the Nadodrzanka, a key railway line, goods from Lower Silesia through the Lubusz Voivodeship will reach Western Pomerania more efficiently, which, in the current geopolitical situation, is becoming an increasingly important 'window to the world.' Intermodal transport is the future, and subsequent infrastructure investments confirm that we are not lagging behind in this regard."
Positive changes will be made possible by track renovations on selected sections of the Wrocław-Szczecin line (No. 273), which run through the Lower Silesian, Lubusz, and West Pomeranian Voivodeships, as well as on the Szczecin-Świnoujście line (No. 401). PKP PLK will clean and refill the ballast, ensuring proper track stabilization. It will perform spot rail replacements on the Wróblin Głogowski-Bytom Odrzański, Kostrzyn-Namyślin, Mieszkowice-Godków routes, the Krzywin Gryfiński and Daleszewo stations, and the Mokrzyca Wielka-Warnowo route, among others. It will comprehensively replace the track surface on a single track on the Wołów-Małowice Wołowskie route. On the affected sections, it will realign the overhead lines and repair turnouts—important infrastructure elements that enable smooth track changes, including: at the Bytom Odrzański, Nowa Sól, Niedoradz, Budachów, Kostrzyn, Ścinawa, and Rudna Gwizdanów stations. To increase capacity and safety, a line block will be constructed on the Rudna Gwizdanów-Grębocice line. To increase the safety of road and rail traffic, the surface will be modernized at 27 level crossings on the Wrocław Pracze-Głogów section, and modern traffic safety systems will be installed at 16. Two modernized platforms in Chełmek Wołowski will provide improved travel comfort for passengers.
"EU funds are making a real difference to Polish railways," emphasized Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Piotr Malepszak. "We are effectively utilizing the opportunities provided by the KPO to gradually develop Polish railways. We are focusing on specific solutions that will significantly improve train journeys, such as on the Wrocław-Szczecin route. Thanks to this, we are step by step achieving our goal, which remains a fast, predictable, and efficient railway."
As Arnold Perepeczo, Vice-President of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority for Economic and Financial Affairs, noted, it is important and symbolic that this news was announced in the Szczecin port, at the newly modernized Dębica Canal, on the Czech quay, which has now been fully adapted to the 12.5 m standard.
– This is another investment that will allow us to use our potential to its fullest extent – he added.
Three contracts with contractorsTo improve travel on Nadodrzanka, PKP PLK signed three agreements with contractors.
“Design and execution of works as part of the task of works on selected sections of the CE 59 railway line – Wrocław Pracze-Głogów section”, worth PLN 154 million net (PLN 190 million gross), will be performed by Trakcja SA.
“Design and execution of works on railway line no. 273 from km 116,000 to km 285,000” with a value (including options) of PLN 216 million net (PLN 266 million gross) is a task that will be carried out by a consortium of companies DOLKOM sp. z o. o., SBM sp. z o. o. and SBM sp. z o. o. sp. k.

All projects are part of the project "Works on selected sections of the CE-59 railway line." They will be carried out using the "design and build" formula outlined in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The main works are scheduled to begin this fall after detailed documentation is developed, and the entire investment—comprising three tasks—is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
