The Central Statistical Office has published preliminary inflation data for May

Inflation in Poland in May was 4.1% year-on-year and -0.2% month-on-month - according to a quick estimate by the Central Statistical Office. This is a lower result than in April (4.2% y/y). We can therefore speak of a slowdown in the dynamics of price growth year-on-year and of deflation in monthly terms.

Prices of consumer goods and services in May 2025 rose by 4.1 percent year-on-year , and fell by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month, the Central Statistical Office reported on Friday in a quick estimate. Analysts expected inflation to remain at the April level, i.e. 4.3 percent , or a slight decline to 4.2 percent.

The Central Statistical Office also reported how prices rose in individual segments of the shopping basket. Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose in May by 5.5 percent year-on-year and 0.4 percent month-on-month .

Energy carriers were 13.1 percent more expensive year-on-year , but 0.3 percent cheaper than in April. Fuels for private means of transport were 11.4 percent cheaper year-on-year and 3.7 percent cheaper month-on-month in May .

Data lower than expected. Finance Minister predicts further stabilization

"Inflation in May was once again below analysts' forecasts," wrote Finance Minister Andrzej Domański on Platform X. In his opinion, the gas price cut, which will come into effect in July, will further lower the inflation path in the coming months .

Optimistic forecasts. There will be a reduction in gas prices

A significant factor in the decline in price dynamics may be the reduction in gas prices . The Energy Regulatory Office announced on Thursday the approval of the new PGNiG OD tariff, in which the gas price will drop from the current PLN 239.65 per MWh to PLN 204.26 per MWh net. The tariff will come into effect on July 1 and its entry into force will mean a decrease in gas bills by 8-11 percent, depending on consumption.
