The world's longest indoor ski hall is to be built in Poland. The decision has been made

- The Mayor of Wadowice has issued an environmental decision for the Babica ski hall. The investor will now be able to apply for a building permit at the District Office.
- The 650m long slope would be the longest indoor slope in the world.
- The commune hopes that the investment will bring economic and social benefits to the entire region.
The Mayor of Wadowice has issued an environmental decision for the planned ski hall in Babica, as confirmed by Wadowice24.pl. The decision concludes the environmental impact assessment phase and paves the way for obtaining building permits.
This brings us closer to the implementation of this unique project on a national scale.
- commented Mayor Kaliński in an interview with the portal.
Now the investor will be able to apply for a building permit at the District Office. If all procedures are successful, Babica has a chance to join the ranks of only 26 similar facilities in Europe, becoming a year-round winter sports center . In an era of climate change, with less snowfall each year, such facilities are gaining in popularity.
The project's investor is Wacław Prorok, owner of PPUH "Wakom" from Ryczów. The project encompasses plots located between Podlesie and Graniczna streets, covering approximately 4 hectares. The environmental report was available for review from April 15 to May 14, 2025, and the process was conducted with public participation. The Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Kraków and the Polish Water Management Authority (Wody Polskie) participated in the review process.
Record-breaking slope: 650 m long and 35 degrees of inclinationThe heart of the facility will be a 650-meter-long indoor ski slope, which would make it the longest in the world . For comparison, the current record holder, China's L+Snow in Shanghai, has a 460-meter-long slope.
The slope, with an inclination ranging from 10 to 35 degrees, will be suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. The facility will be open 365 days a year, regardless of weather conditions. A snowmaking system will guarantee excellent snow conditions, maintaining adequate snow quality at temperatures ranging from -2 to -5 degrees Celsius.
The whole will be complemented by modern lifts, and the technical infrastructure will ensure the smooth movement of skiers and snowboarders.
A 27,000 sq m complex: sports, recreation and service zoneThe hall's built-up area will be approximately 27,000 square meters. The facility will be part of a larger recreational and commercial complex that will include:
- restaurants and cafes,
- shops and equipment rental,
- play area for children and families,
- service facilities for skiers.
The entire complex will accommodate up to 2,000 people at a time, and approximately 700 parking spaces will be provided for drivers.
For comparison, the popular Alpenpark Neuss in Germany, located near Düsseldorf, offers a 300-meter-long slope. The facility in Babica would therefore be more than twice as large, making it one of the most impressive centers of its kind in Europe.
The commune hopes that the construction of a modern complex will bring tangible economic, social and promotional benefits.
