Konrad Stanisław Salamon is an icon of Szczecin photography. He founded the Minifot photography studio, which is still in operation today. An intimate exhibition devoted to him and his work can be viewed at the Szczecin City Hall from Tuesday (17 June).
The presented photos show Szczecin and its residents in the past – precisely in the post-war decades, when the city was rebuilding itself after the war damage. Konrad Stanisław Salamon was a chronicler of these changes, documenting the creation of a new vision of the city, its realization. But he also photographed residents – on the streets, during various events, meetings, school trips, etc. These photographs, which show the city, can be seen at the exhibition in the Presidential Gallery of the Szczecin City Office.
Konrad Stanisław Salamon was born on May 8, 1921 in Chlebów in Wielkopolska. His youth was marked by the tragic period of World War II, he was also a prisoner of the German camp in Radogoszcz.
– After the war, as part of the resettlement, Konrad Stanisław Salamon settled in Szczecin, which quickly became his new home and an inexhaustible source of inspiration. It was in our city that he became involved in photography for good, becoming an extraordinary chronicler of the post-war reconstruction and dynamic development of Szczecin – says Olga Iwanow, Konrad Salamon's granddaughter, the current owner of the Minifot photography studio. – His great passion resulted in opening his own photography studio, “Minifot”. Thanks to his activity in “Minifot”, Konrad built lasting relationships with the local community, and above all, documented Szczecin from the perspective of its everyday life. With his camera, he recorded the changing streets, the emerging identity of the city and its inhabitants. Today, thanks to his photos, we can travel back in time and see Szczecin through the eyes of a master.
Konrad Stanisław Salamon died on July 12, 2002 in Szczecin, leaving behind a priceless archive of photographs which constitutes an important documentation of the history of our city and the legacy of Minifot.
Founded by Konrad Stanisław Salamon, the Minifot studio still exists today, proudly continuing the family tradition. After his death, Minifot was run by his daughter, Marzenna Salamon. Currently, Konrad's granddaughter, Olga Iwanow, has taken over the reins and is passionately and committed to nurturing the love of photography instilled in her by her grandfather.
