Teeth like Marywilska? The services do not rule out the worst, they point to one detail
Thursday evening in Ząbki near Warsaw turned into a tragedy for several hundred families. Around 7:30 p.m. , a fire broke out in a residential complex on Powstańców Street , which quickly spread to the entire building. Despite the quick action of the firefighters, the fire completely destroyed the highest floors. Miraculously, no one died. However, this is not the end of the story. The services do not rule out any scenario – even deliberate arson for diversion.
Fire in Ząbki. The fire engulfed the entire building in a few minutesAccording to information from "Rzeczpospolita", the fire started in the attic of one of the three connected buildings in the shape of the letter "C". - Within 10 minutes, the fire spread to the entire first wing of the building - reports Karol Kierzkowski, spokesman for the Chief Commandant of the State Fire Service. Ultimately, the fire destroyed the roof and apartments on the top floor, and other premises suffered as a result of the extinguishing efforts.
As many as 60 fire brigades, 250 rescuers and 200 police officers intervened on the spot. Only thanks to the quick evacuation no one died, although - as General Ryszard Grosset notes - the wooden, non-impregnated structure of the fourth floor could have turned into a trap.
Ząbki like Marywilska? ABW investigates Russian trailThe Internal Security Agency immediately became interested in the case. "We are not ruling out any scenarios and investigators are working in this direction," said Tomasz Siemoniak, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. The ABW is analyzing whether photos or recordings of the fire could have reached Russian propaganda portals, which has happened in the past with other incidents.
"ABW officers are constantly collecting information on such events, analyzing them and verifying them in terms of possible sabotage," wrote the ministry's spokesman, Jacek Dobrzyński, on October.
According to "Rzeczpospolita", the scenario involving saboteurs is not ruled out, although the services emphasize that there is no clear evidence at the moment. However, experts remind us about the fire in the hall at Marywilska , where people associated with Russian intelligence were operating.
Experts: This doesn't look like a normal fireMany experts have doubts about the natural course of events. Waldemar Jiers, a fire expert and former commander of the State Fire Service in Szczecin, says directly: - I suspect it was arson.
He said the fire appeared to have broken out simultaneously in several distant parts of the building – which is not consistent with the typical spread of fire.
What is even more surprising is that the flames even reached the underground garage, where the car burned down. "That shouldn't have happened. There should have been fans and nets along the way that would prevent that," Jiers explains.
What now? Investigators step into actionTechnicians from the Warsaw Police's investigative department will be responsible for securing the evidence - the same ones who examined the evidence after the Marywilska hall fire. Determining the source of the fire will be key. - We are waiting for the property to be handed over to start the inspection. This is the first thing to do - says prosecutor Karolina Staros from the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor's Office.
Police and fire service reports are expected to provide an answer as to whether the tragedy was the result of an accident, a design error, or perhaps a planned action.
Is this part of hybrid warfare?Fires are increasingly treated as an element of hybrid operations. Gen. Maciej Materka, former head of the Military Counterintelligence Service, warns: - Fires as a new phenomenon generate a huge threat in the form of mass, at a low cost they cause a chilling effect.
Piotr Niemczyk, former deputy head of the UOP, adds: "For a year and a half, we have had cases of arson inspired by Russia. Not every arson is a sabotage, but this scenario cannot be ruled out in advance."
