Jaundice in Gorzów. Sanitary Inspectorate closes more kindergartens. Parents outraged
Parents of preschoolers raise the alarm. - On Thursday (February 20) afternoon we received information that preschool no. 32 would be closed on Friday and Monday. Without a clear explanation as to whether it was due to hepatitis A or something else - says Ms. Dorota, mother of one of the children, in an interview with the portal gorzowianin.com.
Soon, the kindergarten officially confirmed the reason for the closure: "Due to the epidemiological threat of hepatitis A, the kindergarten will be closed on February 21 and 24. Disinfection will be carried out," the facility informed.
A similar situation occurred at Municipal Kindergarten No. 17 on Maczka Street, which was also closed for two days. "A case of hepatitis A occurred in our kindergarten. In accordance with the recommendation of the sanitary inspection, we will disinfect the entire building," the official announcement said.
Parents: "We don't know how many children are sick"The sanitary inspection confirmed the infections, but avoided providing details. - These are preventive measures. We have to disinfect the rooms, toys, carpets. The facilities will be closed until the procedures are completed - explains Dorota Słowińska, director of the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Gorzów, quoted by "Radio Zet".
How many children are infected? Parents cannot find out. The sanitary authority uses the "well-being of children" as an excuse, which causes frustration among caregivers.
— Out of 26 children in my son's group, 21 are sick. However, we do not know if it is actually jaundice. The information is fragmentary, we feel helpless – Ms. Dorota reports in an interview with a local portal.
Not just two kindergartens. Hepatitis A in schools and educational institutionsThese are not the first cases of jaundice in Gorzów kindergartens and schools. Earlier, outbreaks of the disease were detected in other facilities. - This is a serious situation. The virus spreads mainly among children, and the lack of clear information only deepens the anxiety - say parents.
What is hepatitis A and how to protect yourself?Hepatitis A is an acute infectious disease transmitted through food, hence the common name: "dirty hands disease". The HAV virus attacks the liver, and symptoms often resemble the flu - fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, as well as yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.
The best protection against infection is to wash your hands thoroughly – after using the toilet, before eating and after returning home. Vaccination against hepatitis A is also crucial, providing protection for at least 15 years.
The Sanitary Inspectorate reminds that the virus may have a particularly severe course in people over 50 years of age and children with weakened immunity.
