The owners and local residents evacuated the first 30 cattle before the fire brigade arrived, then rescuers led out another 30 animals.

After locating the fire , approximately 100 dead cows were found inside the building. The District Veterinary Officer was called to the scene to assess the condition of the rescued herd.

"14 fire brigades took part in the activities lasting over 4 hours (KP PSP Sokółka, JRG Sokółka, JRG Sokółka station in Dąbrowa Białostocka, OSP Suchowola, Dryga, Czerwonka, Jatwieź Duża, Karpowicze, Zabiele, Dolistowo Stare, Jaświły, Lipsk) - a total of 67 firefighters, as well as the Emergency Medical Services, Energy Emergency Services, Police, Veterinary Medicine," reads the firefighters' statement.

Firefighters managed to defend the adjacent farm buildings worth around PLN 600,000 – the fire did not spread any further. The owner of the farm felt unwell during the operation, firefighters provided her with first aid until the ambulance arrived.

According to Polskie Radio Białystok, the source of the fire has not yet been determined; investigations are ongoing. The owners of the farm estimate the losses in the barn alone at around PLN 900,000, the station determined.
