Artur Bartkiewicz: Do the presidential candidates want to go to war with Ukraine?
Of course, it is no coincidence that Polish politicians have now decided to focus on hard realpolitik towards Ukraine and Ukrainians. Further studies show that after three years of war, Poles' enthusiasm for their eastern neighbors has waned. After February 24, 2022, we welcomed Ukrainians into our homes and went to the border to help those fleeing the war. Today, according to studies described by "Rzeczpospolita" conducted on behalf of the War Research Laboratory in Ukraine at the Institute of Journalism and International Relations of the Pedagogical University of Krakow, 50% of us believe that Ukrainians have a negative impact on the functioning of the state. Poles, like other European nations, are tired not so much of the war, because we are not involved in it, but of its effects - inflation, rising electricity bills and general anxiety related to the unstable international situation. We would like to turn back the clock to 2019, before the pandemic and the war, and once again enjoy the times when it was possible to believe in the end of history.
