A seriously ill pope has approved an important decree. It concerns a Polish woman
As reported by the Vatican, the decision on the new decree was made during a meeting between Pope Francis and Cardinal Pietro Parolin at the Gemelli Hospital . Kunegunda Siwiec, known as Teresa of the Child Jesus, was a Carmelite tertiary, catechist and mystic who dedicated her life to prayer and helping others. Although she herself experienced suffering – bone tuberculosis confined her to bed for years – she never complained, offering her suffering for the sake of others.
The approval of the decree is a breath of optimism for the Church at a time when the world is anxiously following the news about the Pope's health. Francis has been in the Gemelli Clinic since February 14, where he was admitted because of serious respiratory problems. As reported in a statement from the Vatican on Tuesday (February 25), the Holy Father's health is improving slightly - oxygen therapy has been reduced and the kidney failure remains under control.
Prayers for the Pope have not ceased. Since February 24, every day at 9:00 PM in St. Peter's Square, the faithful have been praying the rosary, asking for his quick recovery.
Who was Kunegunda Siwiec?Meanwhile, the story of Kunegunda Siwiec continues to inspire. Born in 1876 in Stryszawa in the Podbeskidzie region, she devoted her entire life to catechizing children and adults. She joined the Third Order of Discalced Carmelites, and during her illness, bedridden, she offered her suffering for the salvation of others. Her beatification process has been ongoing since 2007, and now – after the confirmation of the heroism of her virtues – all that is missing for her to be raised to the altars is the recognition of a miracle through her intercession.
