Italy and Portugal record first draw at European Championship

Italy and Portugal's women's footballers drew 1-1 at the European Championships, the first draw of the tournament in Switzerland.
Both teams still have a chance of reaching the quarterfinals. Italy came into Group B on 4 points, Portugal on 1 point. Spain, who beat Belgium 6-2, are already through to the knockout stage with 6 points.
Italy had the most chances in a packed stadium in Geneva, but they were unable to score for a long time. Cecilia Salvai headed the ball onto the crossbar and Emma Severini's goal was disallowed for offside. Captain Cristiana Girelli had success in the 70th minute with a beautiful shot from behind the penalty line.
Portugal launched a final offensive. Diana Silva scored, but her goal was also disallowed for offside. Then Carole Costa headed the ball onto the crossbar. In the penultimate minute of regular time, Diana Gomes finally worked the ball into the Italian goal.
In the hectic final phase, Portuguese captain Ana Borges saw the red card (two yellows).
