CAS clears French fencer of doping after intimate kiss

The Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS has acquitted French fencer Ysaora Thibus of doping and cancelled her four-year ban. The Swiss tribunal ruled that her positive test was caused by an intimate kiss with her then-boyfriend, American fencer Race Imboden. According to the judges, she could not have known that her boyfriend was taking a banned muscle-enhancing substance.
Thibus, who won silver with the French foil team at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, had previously been acquitted by the international fencing federation, but the world anti-doping agency WADA had appealed to the CAS, demanding a four-year suspension.
The fencer tested positive for ostarine in January 2024. The CAS had scientific research done and concluded that it was very likely that Thibus had ingested the banned substance through kissing her boyfriend.
