The Hague's municipal accountant wants to be an alternative to commercial offices: 'At least a million euros cheaper'

- Since the 1980s, virtually all municipal accounting services have disappeared.
- Only the municipalities of Amsterdam and The Hague still have their annual accounts audited by such a government accountant.
- Carla Slotema-Tesser, chief accountant of The Hague, would like to turn back the clock.
Carla Slotema-Tesser wants her Municipal Accountancy Organization of The Hague to audit not only its own municipality's books, but also those of other municipalities, institutions, and organizations that receive subsidies. She wants to be an alternative to commercial firms. "The social value is evident. And we don't need expensive company cars."
