Aman, a young father who went looking for a kidney donor via social media that would save his life. How wonderful is it that he succeeded? Akim saw the call and decided almost without thinking to donate his kidney and give Aman his life back.
Together, the two play the leading role in a campaign video – which you can watch above – that the Kidney Foundation released this week. Such a campaign is necessary (see also box), because living with two sick kidneys: that is not possible. With one less, who is healthy, life does go on. But yes, it is quite something when you decide to donate a kidney. And then to a stranger too. We saw such a beautiful story earlier in September last year, when Jerûn gave a kidney to a complete stranger .

On October 20, 2023, Akim saw a call on LinkedIn: 36-year-old Aman, a new father, was looking for a kidney donor. Akim: "I thought: this man needs to see his son grow up. And I can live just fine with one kidney." Aman now has a donor kidney and a friend.
Aman is forever grateful to Akim for his kidney and says: "I play football again, perform with the band and can take care of my son. Of course I still take medication and have to go to the hospital for check-ups. But I feel human again."
The two still see each other regularly. Aman: "We have built a close friendship." Akim: "I am especially happy to see how well Aman is doing. Now that he has my kidney, it almost feels like we are family."
