Summer School: How can you spend the same money twice?

Be honest: does it feel like a win when you return something to a store and get your money back? That "feeling" isn't a coincidence, but a psychological phenomenon called mental accounting . On social media, it's also called girl math , a humorous term that suggests only women think this way, but in a man's mind, it works exactly the same way.
In this episode we talk with consumer ethics professor Marijke Leliveld (University of Groningen) about the clever, but sometimes misleading, calculations in our heads, and what that says about all of us and our behavior with money.
