"The family is shocked by the developments of the past few days. They are very concerned about their father-in-law and grandfather. The loss of their mother-in-law and grandmother is sad," said a spokesperson on behalf of the family.
The police say they have no indication that a crime has been committed. How Gerda died is not stated.
On vacationThe couple left home last Thursday, June 12, in a white Peugeot, to go on holiday to France. They have a holiday home near Dijon, but they never arrived there.
The duo's bank details show that they paid for a toll road during the night from Thursday to Friday, and that they were at a bakery near Reims on Friday morning. There has been no sign of life since then.
According to the family, the search for Paul now has the highest priority and the search for him continues unabated.
"The family wants to give the French and Dutch police all the space they need for their investigation. That is why they will not provide any additional information."
