André van Duin remains amazed that people like him

"Everyone is always so enthusiastic," Van Duin told the newspaper. "Nothing can be as sad as an old comedian, I always say, but a lot of people still enjoy what I do. After sixty years. Yes, that surprises me sometimes. I also realize that's special and something to be grateful for."
Van Duin believes above all in collaboration and in the good people he's found around him in recent years. "I can honestly say that we—'we' being the people around me and myself—have made some good choices in recent years," he says. "Programs and series that were a hit and well-watched. There were times when things weren't so good, but since Jan Slagter and I started working together, we can't complain."
Van Duin is also doing well physically. In recent years, he underwent surgery and radiation for cancer. He only shared this with the outside world when it was clear that "everything was behind him." He still goes to the hospital occasionally for checkups. "Then all I see are thumbs up. 'Everything's fine again,' they say. So yes, I can say I'm doing well. I sometimes think: what if it comes back one day? But that's not the case, and I don't think about it too much."
