Skier Matteo Franzoso dies at age 25 after crashing into a fence during training.

Italian skier Matteo Franzoso has died after suffering a serious accident during training in Chile, the Italian Ski Federation announced Monday.
Franzoso suffered a serious fall during a jump on Saturday , three days before his 26th birthday, breaking two safety nets and crashing into a fence.
After being admitted to a hospital in Santiago, Chile, he was placed in an induced coma. However, doctors were unable to save the skier's life. "This is a tragedy for his family and for our sport," declared Flavio Roda, president of the Italian federation.
Franzoso first competed in the World Cup in December 2021. Since then, he has made 17 elite appearances in downhill and super-G, finishing twice in the top 30.
Franzoso was also preparing for the new season with top Italian skiers, including Dominik Paris, at the La Parva ski area near Santiago de Chile.
