Rodolfo D'Onofrio's spicy joke to Boca after the elimination of the Copa Libertadores with Alianza Lima, recalling a phrase from Mauricio Macri

Boca Juniors ' surprise elimination on penalties at the hands of Alianza Lima did not go unnoticed and generated endless reactions in the world of football. Rodolfo D'Onofrio , for example, did not stay on the sidelines of the situation and, through his social networks, launched a spicy joke at his eternal rival. In a message, he referred to a memorable phrase by Mauricio Macri , former president of the Nation and of Boca Juniors, uttered before the historic final of the 2018 Libertadores.
"Whoever loses will take 20 years to recover," said the then president of Argentina. Today, removed from River Plate politics, D'Onofrio brought those words to the present and wrote in X: "Before December 9, 2018, someone said that whoever lost would take 20 years to recover. He was right," Rodo said .
His words generated comments and likes in bulk in a matter of minutes. The joy of many River and Boca fans, as we know, also depends on the other's defeats. His tweet reached more than 70 thousand likes and 1.3 million views in a few hours. "I love you", "You made a great tweet", "What a man" were some of the responses that D'Onofrio received from his followers, mainly River fans, who exploded with happiness at Boca's premature elimination against Alianza Lima on penalties in the top continental competition.
This is not the first time that D'Onofrio has made these kinds of jabs . Last year he congratulated the midfielder for making it to the final of the Copa de La Liga, after eliminating Boca Juniors in the semi-finals. "Congratulations captain," wrote the former River president on his X account, along with an image of Enzo Peréz, now at River, in leather and with his back turned at the Kempes, in which you can see the giant tattoo with the Millonario shield facing the Boca fans.

Rodolfo D'Onofrio was the president of River when the historic final was played in Madrid, in which Muñeco Gallardo's team beat Boca 3-1 and won the 2018 Copa Libertadores. Then, in 2021, he appointed his successor, Jorge Brito, who won the elections and since then, is the current president of the Nuñez team.
Boca won in the 90 minutes but it was not enough. Alianza was better in the penalty shootout and left the Xeneize without continental competition for the rest of the season. With this loss, Boca will not only not play in the Copa Libertadores, but will also not play in the Copa Sudamericana, for not reaching the third phase, which would have been a consolation prize for the Xeneize.
Xeneize will play again this Friday in the Professional League, hosting Rosario Central at a Bombonera that promises to have another hot night after the unexpected defeat that left them out of the Libertadores.
