Racing fans were attacked with gunfire prior to the Recopa Sudamericana final in Brazil

Racing fans who travelled to Brazil to watch the second leg of the Recopa Sudamericana final against Botafogo were shot at. Two of them were injured, one of whom was shot in the waist and taken to hospital.

"We were calm on the beach and we heard what we thought were rockets. Someone shouted: 'Bullet, bullet' and a few meters away I saw someone crouched down firing shots," they told the Argentine News Agency. According to reports, a group of Argentines were robbed on the Brazilian beach, where the thieves took gold objects, very valuable in Brazil.

Everything seems to indicate that two of the supporters of the Avellaneda team tried to resist the assault. One of them was shot in the waist and had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter, while the other was shot in the elbow and was treated in an ambulance.

Racing will face Botafogo this Thursday at 9:30 p.m. (Argentine time) at the Estadio Olímpico Nilton Santos in the second leg of the Recopa Sudamericana final. Gustavo Costas' team is coming off a 2-0 win in the first leg played at the Cilindro de Avellaneda.

Racing's technical director, Gustavo Costas, is expected to repeat the starting 11 that welcomed Botafogo of Brazil in the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana, where the team from Avellaneda achieved a comfortable 2-0 victory with goals from forwards Luciano Vietto and Adrián "Maravilla" Martínez.

This is why he would repeat names ahead of the transcendental match this Thursday night, in which Racing will seek its second international title in just three months.
