This was the best season for Mexican driver Patricio O'Ward, who finished fifth in the Milwaukee Mile race, securing the runner-up spot in the IndyCar Series. With one race remaining in the season, the Monterrey native achieved his career-high points total (505), becoming the second Mexican to finish runner-up in the category, having previously been Adrián Fernández in 2000.
The Monterrey-born Arrow McLaren driver finished this season with two wins, a pole position , 10 top-five finishes, and 12 top -10 finishes, making it his best season in the category.
"It's been the best championship we've had so far, both for me and the team, and I'm looking forward to next weekend in Nashville. We're going to try to finish this championship with a win," said Pato , 26.
Patricio was only beaten this season by four-time champion Alex Palou, who finished second today after being upset by Dane Christian Rasmussen, who won his first race in that category.
Palou didn't win yesterday in Milwaukee, but he had already secured the championship from a previous race in Portland, so the positions achieved are final for the 2025 IndyCar Series season.
Pato was overjoyed, and although he can't overtake Palou in the championship, he'll look to close out the season with a win in Nashville on August 31. Even if he doesn't achieve that victory, no one can overtake the Monterrey native or take away his satisfaction of being the second-best IndyCar driver in 2025. Not even a veteran like New Zealander Scott Dixon, who was relegated to third place this season, will be able to match him.
Palou was chasing the record of 10 victories in a single IndyCar season achieved by AJ Foyt in 1964 and Al Unser Sr. in 1970.
The Chip Ganassi Racing driver has eight wins, including the Indianapolis 500, but Rasmussen's victory in the penultimate race ended his dream.
Rasmussen, 25, was one of several drivers who switched to fresh tires during a late caution due to light rain.
The Ed Carpenter Racing driver fought aggressively from sixth and overtook Palou, who had opted not to pit for tire changes, to take the lead with 15 laps remaining.
After passing the champion on the main straight, the Dane pulled away to win by 1.9 seconds. Penske's New Zealander Scott McLaughlin took third, and American Alexander Rossi, Rasmussen's teammate at Ed Carpenter, took fourth.
Palou is the fourth driver in Indy history to win three consecutive titles, following American Ted Horn, Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais, and Scotsman Dario Franchitti.

Mexican cyclist César Macías had a remarkable performance yesterday in the first stage of the 2025 Tour de l'Avenir in France, finishing in third place on the podium.
In the initial section of this prestigious race, considered the Tour de France under-23 category and which was won by fellow tricolor Isaac del Toro in 2023, the member of the Petrolike team reached the finish line behind the British Noah Hobbs (first with a time of 4:14.45 hours) and the Italian Davide Donati (second) in a very close final sprint .
Meanwhile, Mexican José Antonio Prieto (junior Pan American champion a week ago) finished ninth in this race, which consisted of a 188.6-kilometer route between Aoste and Saint-Galmier.
Despite Hobbs' victory, there were no changes at the top of the general classification, as Frenchman Paul Seixas, winner of the opening prologue on Saturday, retained the leader's yellow jersey .
In this way, the French cyclist maintained his lead of a few seconds over the Italian Lorenzo Finn and the Norwegian Jorgen Nordhagen, in a very close classification.
The race continues today with the second stage, a 136.7-kilometer route between Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise and Vitry-en-Charollais.
Meanwhile, Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard made a statement by winning the second stage of the Vuelta a España, the first with a mountaintop finish in Limone Piemonte.

Olympic archery medalist Angela Ruiz took silver at the Junior World Archery Championships in Winnipeg, Canada.
Eleven days after winning gold in the team event at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, the 19-year-old national team member earned the Argentine medal after losing 5-6 to South Korea's Shin Seobhin in the U-21 recurve final.
The Coahuilense is clearly aiming for her goal: to become one of the best shooters in the world.
“After the 2024 Paris Games, I learned not to try to take on the world so quickly. I know I have the ability to be among the best; however, to get there, I must first close out my junior career in the best possible way,” she said before her trip to Paraguay.
The athlete rose to global prominence at the Paris summer competition, where she won bronze with the women's team alongside Alejandra Valencia and Ana Paula Vázquez.
Alongside the elite
From then on, she began to capture the international spotlight and rub shoulders with the elite. In May, she won the 2025 Copa Presidente Tlaxcala title after defeating her compatriot Natalia Garibay 7-1.
Ruiz has also faced some disappointments, such as being eliminated from the individual event in Asunción. The defeat in the round of 16 served as a valuable lesson for the athlete.
"It was a tough blow for me. The truth is, I came for two medals and only got one, which left me with mixed feelings. I have to keep working because the level of archery is very high, even in the smaller categories," he commented.
At the World Junior Championships, Mexico won gold in the U-21 mixed compound team event with Adriana Castillo and José Cuéllar; Máximo Méndez won silver in the individual compound event; Melissa Robles and Ian Vite took bronze in the U-18 compound event; and the U-21 and U-18 women's compound teams took bronze.
The sport has remained firmly on the podium at the summer competitions since London 2012. Since then, it has won one silver medal and three bronze medals.

The Mexican youth baseball team defeated the United States 10-2 to win the Cal Ripken Babe Ruth U-8 World Series.
In the final, played in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, the tricolor team established its position in the Rookie Division after overcoming a demanding competition system that includes preliminary rounds, qualifying games, and direct rounds.
Milán Búfalo Zazueta was one of the team's stars, registering 10 strikeouts in four innings. Carlos López also stood out, completing the game with two perfect innings in relief.
In the final inning, which earned them the win, Zazueta pitched the ball to first baseman Carlos Vaca and stopped the last batter in the game for a 10-2 victory.
"We extend our sincere congratulations to our champions and our deep gratitude to the parents, managers, coaches , delegates, and everyone who made this team project possible. This victory reflects discipline, commitment, and unity," posted the Cal Ripken Mexico Official website.
As soon as the championship was finalized, the little players began jumping and celebrating all over the field while shouting “Mexico, Mexico.”
The team consisted of seven children from Culiacán, one from Mazatlán, two from Tijuana, and two from Ensenada. The lineup included Zazueta, Abraham Enríquez at catcher, Carlos Vaca at first, Roberto Roki Cruz at second, Carlos Verdugo at third, Erik Altamirano at shortstop , Yadier Mondaca in left field, Chapo López in center field, Humberto Chuky Huízar in right field, and Gabriel Espinoza as designated hitter. Matheo Quintero and Ian Canseco participated in the bullpen .
The achievement takes on even greater significance considering the high level of competition of the Babe Ruth League, an international youth development organization based in the United States. The Cal Ripken Baseball tournament covers ages four to 18 and represents one of the most prestigious showcases for youth baseball on a global scale.
“In 1951, 10 men, convinced that the future of their community depended on the development of its youth, met at the historic Yardville Hotel in Hamilton Township, New Jersey, to develop a youth program,” the league’s website details.
With its victory, the national team maintains Mexico's prestige as a benchmark in international children's baseball.
Chávez Jr. is already with his family.

Hermosillo, Sonora, Julio César Chávez Carrasco left the Federal Social Readaptation Center No. 11 in Hermosillo yesterday at noon after being granted conditional release by federal judge Enrique Hernández Miranda. His release came after several hours of delay, despite the fact that the resolution had been issued since Saturday night.
The boxer's lawyer, Rubén Fernández Benítez, confirmed that Chávez Jr. is now with his family and must adhere to various precautionary measures, including not leaving the country without a judge's authorization, while he faces criminal proceedings. "He will be subject to several restrictions that he will strictly follow. The important thing is that he is now with his family and that his father (Julio César Chávez) is very happy with the resolution," the lawyer stated when announcing the release.
The court ruling was issued around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, when Judge Hernández Miranda determined that the boxing legend's son could continue his trial in freedom, concluding that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) had not proven the need to keep him in pretrial detention. However, his release from prison was not finalized until the following day, prompting complaints from the defense regarding the delay.
According to the ruling, Chávez Jr. must appear at the next hearing on November 24, when the judge will evaluate the progress of the investigation. If convicted, he faces a sentence of between four and eight years in prison.
During the hearing, the Attorney General's Office presented 21 pieces of evidence against Julio, including wiretaps linking him to Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, known as "El Nini ," the Sinaloa Cartel's security chief, as well as a DEA report naming him as a subject of investigation. The discovery of a boxing robe bearing his name on a property linked to Pérez Salas was also mentioned.
The defense questioned the validity and solidity of these elements, pointing out that much of it comes from testimony from unidentified sources and documents that lack legal value in Mexico. Fernández Benítez emphasized that "there is not a single act that demonstrates my client's participation in criminally reprehensible conduct," and accused the prosecution of basing its case on "anecdotes of camaraderie rather than concrete evidence."
Diablos' support for the boy who was hit by a ball is uncertain.

After the head injury suffered by a ball on Wednesday during the game between Diablos Rojos del México and the Pericos de Puebla at the Alfredo Harp Helú stadium, Simón Falah-Assadi's mother told La Jornada that she had already received the required blood donations, but there is still uncertainty regarding the franchise's support to cover the minor's expenses, which "as of Saturday were around 350 thousand pesos" at the Ángeles del Pedregal Hospital.
“We've already met the blood quota, we've had a good response, and for now, nothing more is needed. The boy is stable, still in intensive care, as his recovery must be gradual because he had surgery to drain the bleeding in his brain. Someone from the club's insurance broker contacted me to tell me we had their support, but that they didn't want to commit to anything, as they didn't know whether or not it would go ahead. There was already a claim number, and they said they would keep me updated,” explained Ana Luisa Martínez, the boy's mother, who does not have medical insurance.
Martínez started a fundraising campaign through the Go Fund Me platform, where she shared her son's situation. The website shows the total amount needed (300,000 pesos) and the amount raised so far (37,562 pesos).
Simón was in the upper deck of the stadium (D1) when a foul ball, which initially bounced off the wall, struck the front of his left head. The minor received medical attention at the stadium; however, later that night, he began to show signs of alertness and was taken to the hospital.
“It's an accident; there's no one to blame. It was a wake-up call for the fans and the stadium, because several people have told me this isn't the first incident. It would be good to strengthen safety measures, although there's a call to always be aware of the trajectory of the balls; it's complicated because they travel at high speeds,” Martínez added.
The team assured that it is maintaining communication with the family to follow up on the case. "We offered support through the property insurance so they can focus on Simón's care," they added.
On the other hand, in the third game of the Mexican Baseball League's zone series, the Diablos defeated the Pericos 13-6.

Fulham, led by Mexican Raúl Jiménez, earned a valuable 1-1 draw against Manchester United, who remain winless, yesterday in the second matchday of the English Premier League.
The tricolor player entered the field in the 71st minute, replacing Rodrigo Muniz; however, his presence wasn't reflected on the scoreboard.
After their disastrous last season, where they finished in sixteenth place, United wanted to quickly turn the page, but so far they have been unable to do so, with just one point after two matches, which leaves them currently at rock bottom, in 16th place.
Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty in the 38th minute for a United that did not lose hope and was rewarded for its persistence with an own goal by Muniz, after a shot by Leny Yoro (58) from a corner kick.
But the victory slipped through his fingers when Emile Smith-Rowe (73), two minutes after entering the game, made it 1-1, which ended up being the final score.
Everton, playing their first competitive match at their new stadium, Hill Dickinson Stadium, beat Brighton 2-0. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace, the last FA Cup and Community Shield winners, drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Mexican Orbelín Pineda and his team, AEK Athens, got off to a good start in the Greek Super League, winning 2-0 against Panserraikos with goals from Petros Mantalos (23, from a penalty) and Zini (27). The tricolor played the full 90 minutes.
In the second matchday of the Spanish League, Real Madrid beat Oviedo 3-0 thanks to a double from Kylian Mbappé and another goal from Vinicius.
With this victory, the white club moved up to third place, with six points, the same as Villarreal, leader on goal difference, and Barcelona.
Villarreal provisionally took the lead in the standings after beating Girona 5-0.
Real Sociedad came from behind to draw 2-2 with Espanyol, while Osasuna secured their first win by beating Valencia 1-0.
Meanwhile, Juventus and Como won 2-0 at home against Parma and Lazio in the opening match of Serie A, tying Napoli at the top of the table.
The latter opened the current edition of the Italian championship on Saturday with a 2-0 victory at newly promoted Sassuolo, leaving the three teams level on points and goal difference, provisionally sharing first place.

Djokovic makes a strong debut at the US Open

New York, Novak Djokovic struggled in the second set but emerged victorious in his debut at the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year.
The Serbian, winner of four titles at Arthur Ashe Stadium, defeated NextGen star Learner Tien 6-1, 7-6, 6-2 in a match that was delayed for more than two hours.
Novak, 38, is the last link in the golden era built by the Big 3. His body is a privilege, but it no longer functions as it used to, and the defeats at crucial moments against the younger players, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, are a good example.
Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz started with dominant performances. Fritz needed two hours and seven minutes to defeat qualifier Ignacio Buse of Peru 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in the first match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Fritz needed 10 minutes less to advance with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 victory over another American, Emilio Nava, a wild-card entry.
Sabalenka suffers, but advances
Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the second round after overcoming a significant scare in the first set of her debut. The Belarusian defeated Swiss Rebeka Masarova 7-5, 6-1, but it wasn't easy for the world number one. She suffered an early break of serve, and the match remained tight until the favorite pulled away from a 5-5 tie.
Sabalenka then asserted her authority in the second set, dropping just one game on her way to the eventual victory.
Renata Zarazúa makes her debut today against Madison Keys. The Mexican will be the first tennis player from the country to play a match in all four major Grand Slam stadiums.
