Guadalajara, Jalisco, Omar Bravo Tordecillas, former Chivas del Guadalajara player, arrested Saturday by the Jalisco Prosecutor's Office in Zapopan, was charged yesterday and remains in preventive detention after being brought before a court in Puente Grande on charges of aggravated child sexual abuse.
Bravo declined to testify, and the defense requested that the constitutional deadline for his hearing on possible criminal involvement be extended until Friday. He will remain in pretrial detention pending the outcome of the case.
Although yesterday's hearing in which he was charged was private, it was revealed that the victim, apparently the niece of Bravo Tordecillas' wife, reported having been abused by the soccer player since 2019, when she was 11 years old.
The abuse continued since then, and in recent months (the victim is now 17 years old), she recorded—it is unknown whether in audio or video—one of those occasions in which the former national team player also approached her for sexual purposes.
The Litigation and Follow-up Directorate of the Specialized Investigations Vice Prosecutor's Office for Women, Girls, Boys, Adolescents, Gender, and Family Affairs is continuing the case and issued the evidence that led the judge to indict Omar Bravo, widely known for being one of the top scorers in the history of Chivas.
"Following the complaint, this social representative compiled a substantial investigation file that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant against the suspect through the Tenth Court of Control, Prosecution, and Comprehensive Justice for Adolescents of the First Judicial District," the state prosecutor's office reported in a statement Saturday night.
The 45-year-old soccer coach was arrested on 20 de Noviembre Street, between 28 de Enero Street and Emiliano Zapata Street, in downtown Zapopan.
The prosecutor's office also noted that the investigation is ongoing and "will allow for the collection of additional evidence to clarify the facts."
Omar Bravo's career as a footballer stands out as the top scorer for the Chivas de Guadalajara team, with whom he played from 2000 to 2007 and scored 115 goals.
He later emigrated to Europe to play for Deportivo La Coruña and in 2006 he was part of the Mexican national team.

Seville. In just his first season in charge of Sevilla, Argentine Matías Almeyda has struggled; however, he now has a chance of getting a boost from a 4-1 thrashing of second-place and reigning champion Barcelona in the eighth round of La Liga.
The defeat was costly for the Catalans, as it prevented them from taking the lead from Real Madrid, leaving them with 19 points, two less than the Merengues. Sevilla, on the other hand, climbed to sixth place, within the spots that grant a pass to European competitions. It was also the Andalusian team's first home victory at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium.
Sevilla feasted on goals from Alexis Sánchez (13', penalty), Isaac Romero (36'), José Ángel Carmona (90') and Akor Adams (90+5'), while the Catalans suffered in attack from the absence of young star Lamine Yamal, who is injured, and Raphina.
"It's one of the happiest days of my life. We deserved to win from the beginning to the end of the match," Carmona summed up.
Without the ability to face adversity and turn around results that they displayed last season, Barcelona settled for a goal from Marcus Rashford (45+7'), while Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty that would have meant a 2-2 draw (75').
A week of terror for the azulgranas
In a terrifying week for the Blaugrana, after losing 2-1 to PSG in the Champions League, Pedri spoke: "We have to be self-critical. We have to review it (the match) and there are many things to improve... They outplayed us in intensity, winning practically every duel."
In the day's other matches, Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano drew 0-0, Espanyol beat Betis 1-0, and Alavés defeated Elche 3-1.
In Italy, striker Santiago Giménez was the standout performer in European football this week. The Milan striker started against Juventus, and although he played a spirited 63 minutes and even won a penalty, the match ended in a goalless draw.
Johan Vásquez, also Mexican, played the entire match between his team Genoa and Napoli, which managed to come from behind to win 2-1 and take the lead in Serie A.

The match between the Mexican national team and Chile, corresponding to the round of 16 of the U-20 World Cup, has had its schedule changed, so it will now be played tomorrow at 5:00 p.m., instead of the originally scheduled 1:30 p.m., FIFA announced.
The Tricolor youth team, coached by Eduardo Arce, secured their place on Saturday by beating Morocco 1-0 to finish second in Group C, behind only the Moroccans.
The Mexicans are looking to return to the quarterfinals after eight years and, in doing so, redeem themselves after being eliminated in the group stage in the 2019 edition.
Mexico and Morocco surprised everyone in Group C—considered the group of death—by advancing to the round of 16 ahead of favorites Spain and Brazil. The Verdeamarela's historic elimination led to the dismissal of coach Ramón Menezes yesterday.
In the tournament held in Chile, the closest competition in the group stage was Group E, where there was a three-way tie with six points after South Africa defeated the United States 2-1 and France thrashed New Caledonia 6-0.
Despite the defeat, the United States advanced to the next round as the group leader, benefiting from goal difference, while South Africa finished second. France also advanced as the best third-place team.
Group F was the last group to be decided, with Colombia, Norway, and Nigeria securing their place in the round of 16. The Colombians topped the group after a 1-1 draw with Nigeria, while the Norwegian team drew 1-1 with Saudi Arabia.
