Sheinbaum rejects gift from former governor and explains her clear motives

President Claudia Sheinbaum recently received a gift from former Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre Rivero , and confirmed during her morning press conference that she immediately rejected it.
"I don't receive gifts from them; why would they send me a gift? What does it mean? Besides, I don't know them and I have no desire to meet them," the president stated.
This gesture reinforces the ethical and transparent stance that Sheinbaum has maintained throughout her administration, emphasizing that gifts from political figures with personal interests are not part of her agenda.
During her visit to Ometepec , the president got out of the truck to greet the locals. It was then that a man tried to give her a gift, which Sheinbaum rejected, considering it unnecessary and out of political context.
However, the president emphasized that she deeply values the gifts from the poor . Among the gifts she most appreciates are huipiles, tablecloths, and fruit, which she said reflect gratitude and genuine affection .
"They're so generous, it's breathtaking. Their generosity brings tears to your eyes," she commented.
Sheinbaum emphasized that she does not accept expensive or burdensome items from people with political interests, reinforcing her commitment to public ethics . "We will return them," she asserted, making it clear that her administration seeks to avoid conflicts of interest and maintain transparency in government .
This stance helps to strengthen public trust and differentiate its policy from other scenarios where gifts can be interpreted as attempts at influence or favoritism.
Sheinbaum's message highlights the importance of direct contact with citizens , beyond formal politics. Symbolic gifts from the poor represent gestures of gratitude and strengthen the connection with the inhabitants of each region , especially during visits to remote communities like Ometepec.
In contrast, gifts from former officials or unknown individuals often generate ambiguity in the political context , which explains their systematic rejection.
