San Luis: Governor Poggi's party won a clear victory, relegating Alberto Rodríguez Saá's Peronist party.

The ruling party of Governor Claudio Poggi emerged as the clear winner in the district elections in San Luis, in which half of the seats in the Chamber of Senators and Provincial Deputies were up for election, followed by the Justicialist Front led by former President Alberto Rodríguez Saá. The Libertarians did not present any official electoral proposals, although two lists were put forward by two leaders led by Javier Milei , who placed third and fourth in the aforementioned elections.

This Sunday, voting was held for the first time in this province using the Single Paper Ballot , and, as has been the case in other jurisdictions across the country, the PASO elections were not included in this phase. According to official sources, turnout was close to 60%, and voting proceeded normally throughout the day.

For Claudio Poggi, a former member of the Juntos por el Cambio party, these were crucial elections to change the political balance in the legislature after decades of dominance by the Rodríguez Saá brothers. The current governor, in fact, maintains a tacit agreement with Adolfo Rodríguez Saá, the governor and former interim president after the 2001 crisis.

At press time, the ruling party, "Ahora San Luis," held two of the four provincial senators up for grabs. Poggi's party also held the majority of the seats in the Chamber of Deputies , followed by Alberto Rodríguez Saá's Justicialist Front.

In these district elections, 22 of the 43 seats in the San Luis Chamber of Deputies and 4 of the 9 seats in the provincial Senate were up for election. Mayors and council members were also elected in more than a dozen towns in San Luis.

The provincial Ministry of Government reported Sunday night that the "Ahora San Luis" list placed first in the "consolidated" list reported during the provisional count, by almost 20 points ahead of the Justicialist Front, referenced in "El Alberto."

The Libertarians were unable to compete at the official level due to the lack of registration of the La Libertad Avanza party and because the Casa Rosada (Presidential Palace) did not provide "any support" to either of the two lists , which included two leaders close to the Javier Milei government. But a "mini-decadent" contest took place between these two electoral proposals, which, at press time, was virtually tied.

This is the list put together by Rodolfo Negri , parliamentary undersecretary of the LLA national bloc in the Senate and partner of the libertarian national senator Marcela Arrascaeta , who competed with the "Viva La Libertad Carajo" list and that of the LLA national deputy, Carlos D'Alessandro , who played with the Tercera Posición party, which had already participated in Milei's list in 2023. At the time of going to press, the national deputy was fighting to enter the provincial lower house; of the 10 seats up for grabs in the capital department, 6 were won by the ruling party, 3 by Peronism, and the last one remained in dispute between the latter and the libertarian party. "Viva la Libertad Carajo" had won the internal election in Pedernera, the second most important department in the district.

"There are three leaders who are, in some way, important figures in the province—National Senator Bartolomé Abdala, D'Alessandro, and Negri—and they will have to reach an agreement or hold an internal election," they emphasized from the Casa Rosada, where they are confident they will have the party officially established for the national elections on October 26.
