Sheinbaum calls for eradication of corruption on Navy anniversary

VERACRUZ, Ver. (apro) - During the ceremony for the 204th anniversary of the Mexican Navy at the Port of Veracruz, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo called for the eradication of corruption in state institutions and the defense of honesty as a principle of life and a national value.
“The opposite of honesty is corruption, which must always be seen for what it is: a betrayal of all values. Corruption is disloyalty. That is why it cannot have a place in our institutions, why it must be firmly sanctioned, and at the same time, honesty must be upheld as a principle of life.”
In her message, the president emphasized that loyalty to the homeland also demands loyalty to values and the truth, and that public servants must conduct themselves with integrity.
“The lives of those of us who serve the people and the homeland demand profound values, not superfluous luxuries. What good is ill-gotten money if it leads to the loss of reputation and legacy? There is no wealth more valuable than honor.”
Sheinbaum emphasized that true courage is not only demonstrated in combat, but also in daily discipline, service to the people, and rejection of corruption.
“True courage is standing up with the discipline to serve, maintaining integrity when no one is looking, and rejecting corruption.”
The president emphasized that honesty is the force that gives meaning to all values: honor, loyalty, duty, and patriotism.
“Without honesty, nothing lasts. There is no greater power than loyalty, nor any inheritance more valuable than the example of living uprightly.”
At the end of her address, Sheinbaum reaffirmed her government's commitment to combating corruption and defending national sovereignty.
"The Mexican Navy is living history, a firm present, and a promise for the future. May its values continue to be a beacon for the entire nation."
Accompanied by the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral Raymundo Morales Ángeles, the Secretary of National Defense, General Ricardo Treviño Trejo, the Governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle García, and other officials, Sheinbaum also led the commemorative event for the 201st anniversary of the 1821 Constitution at the Plaza Heroísmo Veracruzano, which was also inaugurated during the event.
During the event, various federal, state, and municipal authorities attended a commemorative Navy parade.
The Cuauhtémoc Ship ReturnsDuring his speech, Navy Secretary Admiral Raymundo Morales Ángeles paid tribute to the training ship Cuauhtémoc, which is departing from New York this Saturday for Mexico after completing repairs following the May 17 accident that left two cadets dead.
The head of the Navy assured that the institution's iconic sailboat "returns stronger, with the living memory of those sailors who gave it their soul."
"The sea has put it to the test, but the Cuauhtémoc returns stronger, with its spirit stronger than ever. This ship is a symbol of what we are: a Navy that never gives up, that transforms and transforms adversity into learning," he stated.
The secretary recalled that the Mexican Navy was born with the free nation and that its role is not limited to maritime surveillance, but also includes humanitarian, medical, and relief efforts for the population.
He mentioned that the Marina Plan, medical visits, and efforts to safeguard human life at sea reflect the institution's ongoing commitment to the people.
Morales Ángeles also highlighted the inauguration of the Plaza Heroísmo Veracruzano and announced that on November 23, the port of Veracruz will commemorate 200 years since the consolidation of independence at sea, a date on which the training ship Cuauhtémoc will be present.
