Pipeline explosion in Iztapalapa was likely caused by speeding: initial report

MEXICO CITY (apro) .- Bertha Alcalde Luján, head of the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City, reported today that the first report on the gas pipeline explosion near the Puente de la Concordia in the Iztapalapa borough determines that the accident was probably caused by the driver's excessive speed, as he is in critical condition.
"We have an initial report on traffic incidents that indicates the driver may have been speeding," the Mexico City prosecutor emphasized during a press conference, in which she provided some progress on the investigation, which has been opened for negligent homicide, intentional injuries, and damages.
As of Saturday night, the death toll from the explosion caused by the fire involving 49,500 liters of LP gas was 13 dead and 40 hospitalized, 17 of whom were on the verge of death.
The mayor asserted that a pothole had been ruled out as the cause of the tanker's overturn, and confirmed that, contrary to initial reports, the Silza Gas company had a valid insurance policy.
