Cosculluela pleads guilty to running over two riders

Puerto Rican urban singer Cosculluela pleaded guilty this Friday to running over two horses and their riders, after reaching a plea agreement with the island's Public Prosecutor's Office .
"I'm extremely satisfied with the agreement ," Cosculluela said after the hearing before Judge Yaritza Carrasquillo of the Humacao Court, a municipality in the east of the Caribbean island.
The urban singer , whose given name is José Fernando Cosculluela Suárez, agreed to the reclassification of two charges, the payment of fines totaling $800 and an amount of restitution to the riders who were seriously injured in the accident .
The two charges that were dismissed were for animal abuse under Law 154 for the Welfare and Protection of Animals and destruction of evidence, and one of the two charges was for violating Article 5.07 of Law 22 on Vehicles and Traffic for reckless or negligent driving .
AudienceA hearing on the revocation of probation is scheduled for next Wednesday, where the guilty plea will be addressed.
At the end of January, Judge Enid Rivera found cause for the artist's arrest on six charges related to that attack, which occurred in May 2024, and Cosculluela was sent to jail .

However, on February 5, he posted the $150,000 bail set by Judge Juan Vera Rivera and was released from prison, although he remained under 24-hour electronic monitoring at his home and was unable to leave Puerto Rico.
Cosculluela faces charges of reckless or negligent driving of a motor vehicle , failure to stop at the scene of an accident , destruction of evidence, and animal cruelty .

According to the investigation , on May 12, 2024, Cosculluela , 44, was driving a vehicle on PR-908, in the Tejas neighborhood in Humacao, and hit the two horses and their riders.
- Both animals died as a result of the impact, while the riders, identified as Ischamary Román Medina, 18, and Luis De Jesús Rivera, 34, were seriously injured.
Cosculluela , after committing these acts, left the scene without leaving any information , but his vehicle was found days later.
Cosculluela , on the other hand, had been serving a three-year probation since May 2023 for a case of domestic violence against his ex-wife, influencer and presenter Jennifer Fungenzi.
