The paradox of women in power

Breaking the glass ceiling often means closing the door to new generations of women, warns general management professor Pablo Foncillas. The communicator bases this assertion on a study published in the Academy of Management Journal , which concludes that for every nine women who join senior management, one fewer are hired at the junior level.
An uncomfortable finding that the management expert attributes to corporate complacency: "When a company sees enough women in senior management, it may believe it has 'solved' the diversity problem." To avoid this counterproductive effect, corporations must bear in mind that combating the gender gap in the workplace is not just about breaking the glass ceiling.
