The Government will take new measures to encourage the use of dollars

Economy Minister Luis Caputo revealed that the government is studying new measures to provide the economy with more monetary resources for growth. He announced that decisions will be announced in two weeks to encourage the use of dollars within Argentina 's monetary system. All of this comes after the IMF projected growth of nearly 4.5% for the country this year, although the lack of dollars could have a negative effect.
" We need this monetization to materialize so that the economy continues to grow ," the minister stated, adding that "this is an economy that is prepared to grow much more than 6%, but it needs fuel." In this regard, at the EFI 2025 Expo, the official stated that "we have the challenge of remonetizing the economy because it is at a very low level. It is less than half of what it normally is."
On the other hand, Luis Caputo defended and argued each of his recent measures. For example, he supported the decision to transfer profits from the Central Bank to the National Treasury, which had generated controversy among economists. "These are genuine profits resulting from the drop in country risk. And we are not going to use that money to finance expenses; rather, it will be used as a reserve to pay off debt in case the banks do not refinance 100% of the debt in pesos because they are focused on lending to the private sector," the minister explained.
On the other hand, he emphasized that the lifting of the currency controls did not generate "any stress" and analyzed that the free dollar is tending to converge with the official dollar. The Minister of Economy considered that this result was possible due to the prior macroeconomic restructuring, a complex task for the Government that took more than a year to prepare.
"The sequence was the reverse of the lifting of the currency controls during the Macri era. At that time, the controls were lifted first because there was positive expectations, but the macroeconomic problems hadn't been resolved. Our approach was different; we first resolved the macroeconomic problems and then lifted the controls. That's why we were able to reach an atypical agreement with the IMF," he emphasized.
Finally, Caputo asked financiers and investors to "get rid of the idea that Argentina is just the same as always because there is a fundamental change. The decline in Argentine prices is no longer due to devaluations. The decline is due to four factors: continuing to lower taxes, deregulation, and opening up competition, and the private sector must invest again," he concluded, according to NA.
