The National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) wage index revealed that, during February 2025, wages showed an improvement again , although they still fell short of year-on-year inflation . The most notable finding was the growth in income in the informal sector, which far outpaced that of formal employment .

There was a 3.8% increase compared to the previous month , bringing the total to a 6.9% rise so far this year. Year-on-year, wages increased by 98.8% , according to the official agency.

wage index

The wage index rose 3.8% in February 2025 compared to the previous month and 98.8% year-over-year.

Indec

Monthly growth was driven primarily by the unregistered private sector , which grew 7.9% . The public sector grew 4.5% , while the registered private sector posted a more moderate 2.3% increase.

By comparison, inflation in February was 2.4%, according to INDEC data, up from 4.7% in the first two months of the year and 66.9% year-over-year.

Although wages grew monthly above inflation in February, the year-on-year wage growth (98.8%) remains below the cumulative inflation rate of the previous 12 months (66.9%) . This indicates that, in real terms, workers' incomes have not yet fully recovered the purchasing power lost in previous years.
