China takes the expected step and opens negotiations with the US on tariffs.

The Chinese government stated this Friday that it is "currently evaluating" the possibility of entering into negotiations with the United States to address the escalating tensions resulting from the Trump administration's tariff policy.
China's Ministry of Commerce, through a spokesperson, said it had "noted that senior US officials have repeatedly expressed their willingness to engage in dialogue with China on tariffs" and called on Washington to show "sincerity" toward Beijing.
"The United States has recently sent messages to China through relevant parties, hoping to initiate talks. China is currently evaluating this," the spokesperson said, according to a statement released by the ministry.
He also emphasized that the Chinese authorities' position is "consistent": "If we fight, we will fight to the bitter end; if we speak, the door is open," he stated, before emphasizing that "the United States unilaterally started the tariff war and the trade war."
"If the United States wants to talk, it should show its sincerity and be prepared to correct its wrongdoings and cancel its unilateral tariffs," he urged, before warning that "saying one thing and doing another, or even coercing and blackmailing under the guise of negotiations, will not work with China."
In this regard, he emphasized that, although US authorities have recently proposed an "adjustment of tariff measures," in "any possible dialogue or talks, if the United States does not correct its erroneous unilateral tariff measures, it will show a lack of sincerity and will further damage mutual trust between the two sides."
Since Trump escalated the trade war in early April, the US has imposed 145% tariffs on Chinese products, and the Asian giant has responded with levies of up to 125% on American imports.
