Starting today, traveling by bus and metrotram costs $1,000 in Mendoza.

Starting this Monday, bus and metrotram tickets will cost $1,000 during peak hours and $830 during off-peak hours in Greater Mendoza.

The increase, which will be gradually implemented for SUBE and NFC readers, amounts to 17.6% . It was established in Resolution No. 478 last month, signed by Undersecretary of Transportation Luis Borrego.

As always, the increase will affect fares on Metropolitan Area buses and the Metrotram . Discounts of up to 50% for students and frequent riders, among other groups, remain in place, as do free fares for teachers, caretakers, and those over 70.

With the update, the peak-hour fare will increase from $850 to $1,000 , while during off-peak hours, between 9 and 11 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. , the fare will cost $830 (up from $705.50).

The provincial government justified the increase based on service costs, the availability of resources from the Transportation Compensation Fund, and studies conducted by the Provincial Mobility Authority (EMOP) following the public hearing with bus companies last December.

Based on the new calculation, if all the current benefits were included, the ticket should cost $2,912.43 to "self-finance" public transportation without the need for a subsidy from the Provincial Government, which allocates $600 million per day to the system.

According to the Transport Department, only 40% of users pay the base fare , as the rest have access to benefits , discounts and free services , in addition to the much-requested transfer .

Public transportation spending is currently divided into 43% for personnel, 17% for the acquisition of new units, and another 17% for maintenance . The remainder is distributed among items with smaller percentages.
