June Lockhart, actress from 'Lassie' and 'Lost in Space', dies

American actress June Lockhart, remembered for her roles in the television series "Lassie" and "Lost in Space," died in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 100, her representative announced Saturday.
Lockhart, who was on screen until 2014, died last Thursday surrounded by her family at her home in Santa Monica, a city in Los Angeles County.

Born on June 25, 1925, in New York City, Lockhart grew up in a family of artists, her father an actor and her mother a singer.
He began his film career alongside his parents in a big-screen version of 'A Christmas Carol' (1938) and in 'Son of Lassie' (1945), a concept he extensively revisited in the television series.
Lockhart also served unofficially on the White House press corps since the 1960s, accompanying several presidents on their tours until the George W. Bush administration.
