Two die after Mexican ship collides with Brooklyn Bridge in New York

Two people were killed and more than a dozen injured when the Mexican naval training ship Cuauhtémoc crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City on Saturday night, Mayor Eric Adams said.
In a message on X, he reported that “at this time, of the 277 people on board, 19 suffered injuries, 2 of whom remain in critical condition and 2 more have unfortunately died from their injuries.”

Previously, the Navy (Semar) said that "as a result of the accident, there is an official report of 22 injured crew members, 19 of whom are receiving medical attention in local hospitals, of which 3 have serious injuries.
"No items fell into the water, so rescue operations were not necessary."
An official told CNN that the two people who died fell from one of the ship's masts. They were pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital, the source added.
SHEINBAUM MOURNS DEATHS
President Claudia Sheinbaum lamented the death of the ship's two crew members.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of two crew members of the Cuauhtémoc Training Ship, who lost their lives in the unfortunate accident in the port of New York. Our sympathy and support go out to their families.”
"The Navy, with the support of local authorities, is currently treating the wounded. The Mexican ambassador to the United States and staff from the Mexican Consulate General in New York are supporting the Navy."
"I thank New York Mayor Eric Adams for all the support he has provided to our fellow citizens. We are monitoring the situation, and the Navy will continue to provide updates."
