Spain’s public broadcaster to propose withdrawing Spain from Eurovision, average rent in Spain rises to €1,100 and more news on Tuesday September 16th.

Spain’s public broadcaster to propose withdrawing Spain from Eurovision

RTVE President José Pablo López will today propose to the Board of Directors of the public corporation that Spain withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest if Israel participates in the next edition of the competition.

If approved, Spain would become the fifth country to announce its withdrawal from Eurovision in the event of Israel's participation, following the Netherlands, Slovenia, Iceland, and Ireland.

Average rent in Spain rises to €1,100

In Spain, the average cost of renting a home has increased by 13.1 percent in one year, rising from €992 in August 2024to €1,122 in August 2025 for an 80 m2 apartment, according to data provided by the Fotocasa Real Estate Index.

This increase is due to the fact that the price per square meter reached €14.03 in August, although it did drop by 2.4 percent compared to July 2025.

“The shortage of rental housing and the continued increase in demand complicate the situation. Rental housing production is insufficient, and part of the residential stock has shifted toward more lucrative options such as tourist rentals,” says María Matos, Director of Research and spokesperson for Spanish property portal Fotocasa.

2025 summer confirmed as hottest on record in Spain

The summer of 2025 has already become the hottest on record in Spain, with an average temperature on the peninsula 2.1C above the reference average, according to an announcement made this Monday by Spain-s Minister for Ecological Transition Sara Aagesen.

The minister has announced these figures, which Spain’s national weather agency Aemet will share today in its summer climate report.

These figures have made this season the warmest since the beginning of the historical record in 1961, surpassing 2022, the year that held the previous record.

Nurse on trial for not vaccinating 400 children

A nurse in the Basque Country has gone on trial for pretending to vaccinate 400 children.

The nurse followed the usual protocol, but when one of the parents once jokingly commented to the nurse that it seemed as if her daughter was being injected with water because she wasn't reacting to the vaccines, the anti-vaccine health worker became somewhat nervous.

Nearly 50 families affected by her actions are seeking up to 12 years in prison for her. The defendant will testify this coming Friday.
