Roberta Flack, known for the song Killing me softly with his song, dies

Singer Roberta Flack died today at the age of 88 after suffering from a degenerative disease. She was best known for hits such as 'Killing Me Softly With His Song'.

“We are heartbroken that the glorious Roberta Flack passed away this morning, February 24, 2025,” her representative announced in a statement.

According to Monday's statement, representatives of the now deceased mentioned that "she died peacefully surrounded by her family. Roberta broke ceilings and records. She was also a proud educator."

Suzanne Koga told The New York Times that Roberta died in Manhattan on the way to the hospital from cardiac arrest.

In 2016, the Grammy Award winner suffered a stroke that temporarily affected her ability to play the piano. However, she continued to move forward with her career and preserve her musical legacy.

In 2022, Flack shared in a statement that she had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive disease that has made it difficult for her to sing and speak. However, she resolutely noted: “It will take a lot more than ALS to silence this icon.”
