Letters to the editor: appointment of rectors

We view with displeasure the authorization of the Call for Competition of Backgrounds and Opposition for Promotion of Hierarchy for the Coverage of the positions of Director/Rector in the Higher Education Institutions of State Management, Ministerial Resolution No. 849/5 (MEd) dated 04/24/2025, and its rectification, Ministerial Resolution No. 879/5, issued with errors in the recitals that were not saved. Institutions with a long history of excellent management experience have been arbitrarily selected. The negative impact of this decision is magnified when it is known that the seven-member jury stipulated by Law 9,765 in its Article 46 is not complete. In this case, there are only four appointed by the provincial Executive Branch, which amended Law 3,470, passed in April 2024. The members elected by teachers are missing to give this process the true legitimacy it deserves. For this reason, I urge the educational authorities in this area to review this call and suspend it until the full membership is reached, and institutions are chosen that genuinely have vacancies in the positions to be filled, and not arbitrarily. If this continues, it would harm the rectors already duly appointed by the Higher Education Classification Board on an interim basis. Far from providing stability, it creates a sense of lack of recognition for the commitment and responsibility to the management that is being carried out in higher-level institutions.
