During the early hours of Monday, July 7, U.S. authorities killed an active shooter armed with tactical gear and a rifle after he opened fire on Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley, in McAllen , Texas , United States ( USA ).

Police officers, along with local police, responded to the attack and managed to neutralize the attacker. According to information from the American media outlet Fox News , no federal agents were injured ; however, a McAllen Police officer was injured.

What happened in Texas on Monday, July 7?

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez identified the attacker as 27-year-old Ryan Luis , who was allegedly linked to a Michigan address and was driving a vehicle with Michigan plates, according to CNN .

According to police sources cited by local media, the slain gunman 's car had the phrase "Cordis Die " written on it in spray paint. This expression is a reference to a video game in the "Call of Duty" series.

U.S. authorities believe the ambush was deliberately carried out against Border Patrol personnel. So far, there has been no information about the attacker's specific motive or whether he acted alone or with assistance.

Local authorities are expected to provide more details about the case during a press conference on the afternoon of Monday, July 7 , according to the aforementioned media.

The attack comes just days after another violent incident in Texas, when an officer was shot Friday night near the Prairieland detention center, operated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ).
