MONTERREY, NL.- In view of the 2026 World Cup, it was revealed that Nuevo León has the most expensive accommodations of the 16 venues where the sporting event will be played, with rooms costing up to $1,500 per night, but there is also no one to regulate these high prices .
The above was announced at a meeting held this Thursday by organizers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Monterrey with business leaders from Saltillo, Coahuila.

“One day, FIFA came to us with a report telling us: hey, you have the most expensive hotel rate of the 16 (venues),” the organizer shared.
He specified that these rooms cost around $1,500 per night , "and not everyone can afford that price."
He indicated that, as representatives of the World Cup, they have held talks with Jesús Nader, president of the Mexican Hotel Association, because the cost is higher than at the Hotel Presidente in New York.
"That's what it's worth, and no one regulates it. I mean, you can't go to the Federal Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Tourism, or Profeco, and no one can regulate hotel rates," he said.
He mentioned that in conversations with hoteliers, they've suggested that if they don't adjust rates, what will happen in Nuevo León is that fans will prefer an Airbnb or move to nearby cities like Saltillo.
"They'll be spending less time at the venue because they're charging very high rates, as not everyone can afford $1,500 a night," he said.
He specified that Nuevo León will have 25,000 rooms available for the World Cup and 9,000 Airbnb properties.
He emphasized that visitors who will attend the major soccer event will benefit other cities like Saltillo because even there, lodging rates are lower.
"There may even be people who say, 'I'd rather go to Saltillo because the rates are better in Saltillo than in Monterrey,'" he explained.
However, he said the intention is for the proceeds to benefit the city, which is precisely why the Fan Festival was conceived.
