Business leaders condemn attack on state police in Gómez Palacio

Business organizations, representatives of the primary sector, and civil society groups from the Comarca Lagunera region expressed their deep concern and condemnation of the armed attack that occurred Saturday against State Police officers in the municipality of Gómez Palacio.
During security operations, the officers were attacked with firearms, raising alarm among the region's productive sectors and citizens. The incident was described as a direct threat to the stability and confidence that had been restored after more than a decade of progress in security.
"This attack represents a serious warning sign and demonstrates the need to strengthen security strategies, inter-institutional coordination, and operational presence in the region. After more than a decade of significant progress on this issue, it is unacceptable that violence should once again threaten the stability and trust that has taken so long to rebuild," 71 organizations, from business chambers to universities and civil society organizations, stated in a joint statement.
They asked the public security authorities of the state of Durango to strengthen the presence of law enforcement throughout the La Laguna Metropolitan Area. They emphasized the importance of a strategy based on intelligence, operational capacity, and effective coordination with federal forces.
They also called for the security of both police forces and citizens to be guaranteed, avoiding any setbacks to the peace of the region, and for clear reporting on the progress of the investigations and the measures that will be implemented to prevent further attacks.
"Security does not allow for complacency, but it does require firm and decisive results," they stated.
An urgent call was also made to the Durango State Government and federal forces to assume their responsibility with leadership and determination. The business sector and civil society reiterated their willingness to collaborate in strengthening security strategies.
They emphasized that coordination, trust, and citizen participation are fundamental pillars for maintaining stability and peace in the region.
"The Laguna Region deserves to continue being a safe, productive, and peaceful region," the statement concludes.
