Asteroride 2024 YR4: NASA rules out risk for Earth

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced that asteroid 2024 YR4 no longer poses any risk to Earth. After weeks of fear and speculation, the space agency said that this risk has been significantly reduced.
"The latest observations have further reduced the uncertainty of its future trajectory , and the range of possible locations where the asteroid could be on December 22, 2032 has moved further away from Earth," the agency said in a statement.

According to the information, experts from the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory have made more precise calculations about the asteroid's trajectory.

The new data determined that there is no longer a significant potential for the asteroid to impact our planet during the next century.
"There is still a very small chance that asteroid 2024 YR4 will impact the Moon on December 22, 2032. That probability is currently 1.7%," NASA said.

Due to its possible collision with the Moon, NASA announced that they will continue to monitor the trajectory of this asteroid. It was also announced that the James Webb Space Telescope will observe the asteroid in March to obtain more information about its size for scientific purposes.
Recall that in recent weeks, data on a probable collision with asteroid 2024 YR4 have been increasing . The highest record was just over three percent and is currently at 0.0050%, according to NASA .
