Anti-doping tests proposed in alcohol tests in Torreón

Martha Rodríguez Romero, director of the Municipal Justice Center of Torreón, said that there is a proposal to apply the anti-doping test during breathalyzer operations, since there are cases of people who test negative for alcohol levels but who present erratic behavior and dilated pupils, which could be a sign of consumption of some prohibited substance.
“Nowadays, many people consume some substance and drive and there is no one to control them. This is a very important part because we do not have an exact measurement of the people who are driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said.
The director of the Justice Center commented that the issue of toxic substances is considered in the Police, Government and Civic Justice Ordinance for the Municipality of Torreón but that it would have to be harmonized with the Income Law in terms of fines and other regulations.
The official said that it is possible that in a couple of weeks, they could begin with a pilot test of the alcohol testing operations and that for the anti-doping test, a saliva sample would be taken with a swab with the intention of detecting up to seven types of drugs, including crystal and fentanyl.
“The issue of intoxication is a serious issue that we must take into account in order to have a real measurement, because well, there at the Detention Center people arrive who are already known, we already know who they are, in the issue of recidivism we have decreased a lot precisely because of Civic Justice but nevertheless, we do have to have a real measurement of how much the kids are consuming, because I feel that that part is what we are missing, being able to know how much of a problem we have,” he added.
The official recalled that the project to implement the saliva drug detection toxicology test in the breathalyzer operation arose last year, adding that "driving under the influence of any substance is just as dangerous as being drunk."
On the other hand, Rodriguez Romero said that this year they will seek to professionalize the work of the Experts in order to provide a more effective and decisive response to all those people who are involved in road accidents and who have to go to court.
