It will certainly be a season to remember for the Under 8 boys of Rugby Varese, the 2024/2025 one . A season full of satisfactions and important results, testimony of a movement that, also in Varese, sees a certain growth with the participation of an ever-increasing number of rugby players.
It is precisely them, the young athletes of this group who have given prestige to this year that began in September and that on the 29th has already seen them engaged in the first group in Gattico in which the team obtained a draw and three victories against teams from Piedmont and Lombardy.
From there the feeling was of having in our hands a solid group, now formed for a few years , that had the possibility of doing well. And that thanks to the training characterized by sacrifice, dedication, mud and frozen fields, but also by great joy and fun, they forged a team spirit and a truly solid group. And if the saying "dirty children, happy children" is true, well, this sport really has no equal!
The results of Gattico were however only the first signs of a season that turned out to be well above the expectations of coaches, parents, but also of the rugby players themselves who, with great commitment, participated in various regional groups (Settimo Milanese, Cassano Valcuvia, Lecco, Varese, Rho, Lainate, Muggiò and Rozzano) without losing a single match , thus standing out both at a local and regional level.
With the arrival of spring the level gradually rose , but the Under 8 players certainly did not lose heart, putting even more determination and passion on the pitch and, making up for a physicality that was often inferior to that of their opponents with team play , they faced the national teams of Rho, Piacenza and Biella and emerged, once again, undefeated.
A trail of successes that was crowned by two important placings at the national “Capuzzoni” tournaments in Milan and the City of Treviso , a true testing ground for the under 8 team where, competing with the youth sectors of the Venetian teams, the undisputed queens of this sport, they obtained two fifth places, losing only one match in each tournament and resulting, in both cases, the first non-Venetian team in the tournaments.
In this group, where there are no starters or reserves , each of the young athletes has provided their own contribution. With this spirit it was possible to obtain excellent results, highlighting once again how in this sport team spirit is worth more than individual initiative. Now the season is in its final stages, there are only a handful of training sessions left to face always with lots of fun, until we get to the Giubiano Rugby party where, on the morning of Sunday 15 June, mini rugby will celebrate the passage to the higher categories for the older players.
What will remain of this season are certainly the sporting results (a fifth place in Treviso out of 77 teams is a very respectable result for a reality like ours), but even more a friendship and a team spirit that have been the true strength of these athletes and that we hope can last over time even in the higher categories.
