For the leader of Forza Italia it is now a summer obsession. "We have presented the bill in Parliament. We will take it slowly, we will bring it home", he said in the Senate on Thursday. Shortly before, Forza Italia spokesman Raffaele Nevi had said he was "ready to approve the Ius scholae even with the opposition" .
Like any catchphrase, here is the refrain of Lega and FdI: "The citizenship law is fine for us as it is". The opposition opens up to the debate, while the rest of FI does not dance . Indeed, it backs into a corner like someone who wants to get on the dance floor, but has something bigger in mind that is holding it back.
The relaunch of the idea of granting citizenship after 10 years of study would seem to be an attempt by Tajani to send a signal to the Berlusconi family. In February, the Cav.'s daughter, Marina, had told Il Foglio that "small steps forward are needed" on the issue and that "overly drastic and ideological positions only generate excesses in the opposite direction". And yet, in the referendum the question on citizenship was a flop, and FI itself had invited voters to prefer the beach to the ballot box .
“Evidently Tajani felt the need to bring the issue back to the center of FI’s political action,” says to Il Foglio the vice president of the Chamber Giorgio Mulè , who in these pages after the referendum hoped that the party would avoid further rushing ahead on citizenship. “We need to deal with reality. When questioned by Il Foglio, MP Alessandro Cattaneo prefers to ignore the issue. Other Forza Italia members do the same, perhaps to avoid making clear a certain skepticism. If not for the merit of the proposal, at least for the secretary's timing.
