Wins with 51 percent of the votes, defeated Andriollo of the Democratic Party. For the first time, right-wing parties win in the capital of South Tyrol
The center-right rejoices, calling it "a historic victory". Claudio Corrarati is the new mayor of Bolzano, in the run-off he obtained 51.03 percent of the votes, while his challenger Juri Andriollo of the Democratic Party stopped at 48.97 percent. In the end the difference was just 708 votes. The turnout was bad, 42.8 percent of those entitled to vote voted, a decrease of about ten points compared to the first round.
It is the first time that the center-right has won in Bolzano. Corrarati, an entrepreneur turned politician, was the result of mediation between the government parties. "Now is a great moment of responsibility. We have a job ahead of us that we will put into action starting from the next few days. It is certainly an important phase that we will have to do with great attention and quality, as the citizens will ask and ask us, because I believe that politics and also the number of people who went to vote today shows that it has distanced itself too much from the citizens and for this reason we must bring the citizens closer to politics, bring the palace closer to our citizens and for this it will be a double job", said the new mayor.
Among the first to congratulate him, Matteo Salvini: "Historic victory of the center-right in Bolzano! Concrete proposals and common sense: forward with change!", the words of the leader of the Northern League. "The victory in the Municipality of Bolzano marks a watershed: the responsibility of government by the center-right can now also be applied in the capital city of the province of Bolzano, which will align itself with the provincial government and the national government. A season of profound renewal begins", said the honorable Alessandro Urzì , regional coordinator of Fratelli D'Italia of Trentino Alto Adige.
Maurizio Gasparri of Forza Italia also speaks of a "historic victory". "For the first time with a stable majority the centre-right will be able to govern the city. Thanks to the unity of our coalition, to the agreement with the civic movement that was well rooted in the city and also certainly thanks to the contribution of many representatives of trade organisations of every ethnic group".
