San Siro: Carlo Monguzzi resigns as chairman of the Environment Committee.

Carlo Monguzzi in the city council
Milan, October 3, 2025 – First, the farewell to the majority supporting Mayor Beppe Sala, dubbed the "concrete majority" following the approval of the sale of the San Siro stadium and the surrounding area to Inter and AC Milan. Now, the resignation as president of the Environment and Mobility Commission at Palazzo Marino.
Europa Verde city councilor Carlo Monguzzi , a historic exponent of Milanese environmentalism, has resigned from his position as head of the internal body within the municipal administration, dedicated to the discussion of issues and interventions prior to their introduction in the city council.
Monguzzi himself announced the news in a statement. Following the vote on the sale of San Siro to the clubs, Monguzzi wrote, " It is impossible under these conditions to work in the service of the institutions and the citizens. I feel profoundly saddened because in my many years as president, I have always managed to give a voice to committees and citizens who otherwise would not have been heard. But the split last night by a section of the majority was devastating, and it was the last straw that broke the camel's back , severing any possible harmony: save Milan, save San Siro, cut off our amendments to hastily approve the resolution and the cynical recourse to Forza Italia for help."

The double step back is certainly not the end of Monguzzi's political career. Nor has his fighting spirit over the San Siro issue abated. "Now everyone is asking the other two Greens [Tommaso Gorini and Francesca Cucchiara, ed. ] not to leave the majority," Monguzzi continues. "First they hit us with hammers, insult us, approve the most horrible things, and then kisses kisses. Action is needed: they should withdraw the resolution on the stadium and apologize. For me, the battle is not over; we will seek justice in every possible forum ."
Meanwhile, around seventy environmental activists have published an open letter on Change.org, addressed to the majority female councilors who voted to approve the sale of San Siro. The letter expresses "disappointment" and "outrage" at their decision.
