New Highway Code, Deaths and Injuries Continue to Decrease: -9.5% Victims, -4.7% Total Accidents. All the Figures
Five months after the entry into force of the new Highway Code (14 December 2024 - 13 May 2025), the positive signs on the road safety front are confirmed. Compared to the same period of the previous year, there were 47 fewer deaths, a decrease of 1,346 in the total number of accidents was recorded .
The data relating to accidents, shared by the Ministry of the Interior with the MIT and collected by the Highway Police and the Carabinieri , highlight a general decrease in accidents and their related consequences.
Specifically, a 4.7% decrease in the total number of accidents was observed, going from 28,607 to 27,261 . Even more significant is the 8.2% decrease in fatal accidents (from 453 to 416) and the 9.5% decrease in the number of deceased people (from 496 to 449). Accidents with injuries also decreased by 6.7% (from 10,969 to 10,232), with a consequent 6.8% decrease in the number of injured people (from 16,164 to 15,071). This is according to a note from the MIT.
