Aid for purchasing electric cars, but fewer charging stations

Car scrapping is back to encourage the rejuvenation of the car fleet with the purchase of electric vehicles.
The control room on the PNRR of Palazzo Chigi has proposed to remodulate almost 600 million euros by diverting them from the construction of charging stations to the replacement of over 39 thousand most polluting cars with electric vehicles.
Motus-E, the Italian association of the electric mobility industry, welcomes with "great satisfaction" the Government's decision to channel a portion of the residual funds available from the PNRR into incentives for electric vehicles.
A measure that seems to favor the electric car industry, taking away resources from the logistical aspects that are a major brake on the expansion of electric cars: that is, the limited distribution of charging stations. The absence of a widespread charging network - together with the very high cost of electric cars - leads consumers to still favor cars with internal combustion engines or at most hybrids.
According to the president of Motus-E, Fabio Pressi , "The needs of citizens are listened to and our requests are accepted. Now it will be crucial to know the details of the measure, on which the group of beneficiaries and the success of the initiative will depend, and the implementation of the resources will have to be defined quickly, to avoid penalizing effects on the market". The Report produced by the Control Room specifies that "due to objective market circumstances", the revision concerned the remodulation of the targets on the charging columns and a "reduction in the cost of the investment".

Approximately 597 million euros are being reinvested in a new program for "scrapping and renewing the vehicle fleet that promotes the replacement of internal combustion vehicles with zero-emission vehicles, with more advantageous incentives for lower income groups". The intervention aims to replace over 39,000 polluting vehicles with the same number of electric vehicles to lead to "a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions" in the transport sector. The contributions, the text clarifies, will be allocated to individuals, resident in functional urban areas and in compliance with specific ISEE thresholds , for the purchase of private zero-emission vehicles and to micro-enterprises with registered offices in functional urban areas for the purchase of commercial vehicles of the same type.
