Casoria celebrates 70 years of the Camillian Hospital with the celebration in honor of the patron saint of the sick

A day of celebration and gratitude enveloped the community of Casoria on the occasion of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Camillian Hospital and the naming of the facility after San Camillo. The celebrations culminated with the traditional Feast of San Camillo, patron saint of the sick, which this year took on an even deeper meaning due to the important milestone achieved by the health facility.
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of numerous citizens, health workers, local authorities and representatives of the Order of Camillians, all united in paying homage to an institution that for seven decades has been a fundamental pillar in the assistance and care of the sick in the territory.
The day was animated by a deep sense of gratitude and pride, well expressed by the words of Brother Carlo Mangione, General Director of the hospital. “It is a great satisfaction to celebrate these 70 years,” said Brother Mangione, visibly moved. “This anniversary is not only a temporal milestone, but the testimony of decades of dedication, sacrifice and love for others. The Hospital that from today will be named after San Camillo has been and continues to be a beacon of hope and a place of care for thousands of people, thanks to the tireless work of all those who have worked and continue to work there.”
The central moment of the day was the solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Father Pedro Tramontin, Superior General of the Camillians. The church, packed with faithful, resounded with the words of Father Tramontin, who underlined the importance of the legacy of St. Camillus de Lellis and the relevance of his charism in serving the sick.
In his homily, Father Tramontin retraced the history of the hospital, highlighting how the work of the Camillians is a constant reminder of the values of hospitality, compassion and professionalism, pillars of the Camillian mission. He also expressed his deep admiration for the work carried out in Casoria, calling it a shining example of Christian charity and a point of reference for the entire community.
At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, in a moment of great emotion, the blessing of the large effigy of San Camillo, positioned outside the hospital, took place. This symbolic gesture, performed by Father Tramontin, sealed the day of celebration and reaffirmed the indissoluble bond between the mission of the hospital and the inspiring figure of its founder.
The Feast of San Camillo 2025 in Casoria, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Santa Maria della Pietà Hospital, represented not only a moment of celebration of an important milestone, but also an opportunity to renew the commitment and dedication to the sick, in the wake of the great Camillian tradition.
