Ukraine-Russia War, Today's News. UN Approves US Resolution That Does Not Mention Russian Aggression

The UN Security Council approved the US resolution on Ukraine with ten votes in favor, zero against and five abstentions, after all amendments (both those of Moscow and those of the Europeans) had been rejected for procedural reasons or because of Russia's veto. The 5 countries that abstained were France, Slovenia, Greece, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, among which Paris and London could have used their veto power. The Russians voted in favor.

The UN General Assembly had earlier rejected a resolution drafted by the United States, later passed after amendments, which stated that the conflict was the result of a "large-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation."

"This resolution puts us on the road to peace," Shea said, evoking the title given by Washington to the document: "A first step, but a crucial step that we should all be proud of. Now we must use it to build a peaceful future for Ukraine, Russia and the international community."
